The folks at Clipper Tea love the Tea Bag Wedding Dress! Here's my interview with them from the Clipper Tea Facebook page.....
We’ve been absolutely mesmerised by Jane Gray's (@jane.gray.nettle.weaver on Instagram) wedding dress installation, made of around 2,000 Clipper teabags! Here's our interview with Jane: “That's a lot of tea drinking since 2017 when I began my textile design degree. I love the organic Clipper tea, and I flow between an Earl Grey or an organic nettle brew to keep me quenched whilst I'm designing and creating sustainable garments and installations. Back in 2017, searching for all things organic, I discovered Clipper with unbleached teabags, and decided that the teabags definitely had a place in my future designs because we share the same ethical narrative. This project was created to highlight the need for a circular system and to stop the linear process of making #FastFashion that potentially ends up in landfill."
Jane, a grandmother of eight, spent almost 220 hours weaving, smocking, sewing, and ironing.
“Yes, I had to iron the used crinkly, squeezed out teabags to enable them to line up straight to sew on the machine”, added Jane.
Before Christmas, the dress was exhibited at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Cornwall. If you’re interested, head over to Jane’s Instagram or website (janegraydesigner.co.uk) to check where you can see it next!
"Don’t worry " Jane said, “I am now trying to replenish my resources and drinking more tea as my ideas grow, ready for another project.”
